Carex appressa Tall Sedge
This wet forest area is dominated by the tall sedge (Carex appressa) which is one of the defining characteristics of this EVC within moist to wet forest areas. Other indicator species found in this area are Phragmites australis, herbs such as Epilobium pallidiflorum, and other associated species including Melaleuca squarrosa, Acacia melanoxylon, Rubus parviflorus, Gleichenia microphylla, Hypolepis rugosula, Blechnum minus, Juncus pauciflorus.
The flatness of the swamp means that floodwaters passing over it must flow slower than along the stream channel. Consequently, the vegetation is protected from erosion and low foliage is prone to heavy deposition of sediment and moderately low fertility. Such conditions favour sedges and creeping plants, and the moisture favours ferns. The water coming down this branch of the creek is direct from one of the headwater springs.
Melaleucca squarrosa Scented Paperbark
One of the indicator species found here, the Showy willow herb (Epilobium pallidiflorum), has large white or purplish pink flowers.
